Walki-talki tours consist of mp3 audio files and a printable map in
pdf format. All you need to do is to print the map, to transfer the mp3
files to your media player, and to take the tour! Each number on the map
corresponds to the similarly numbered audio track. The audio tracks include
accurate directions, but you should take a printout of the tour with
you in order to avoid getting lost. All you have to do is walk along
the path traced on the map and to dial the corresponding track number
when you arrive at a landmark.
There are innumberable mp3 players, and we will provide detailed
directions for each as we become familiar with them. Below are detailed
instructions for iPod+iTunes. If you need directions for a different
media player,
email us with your request. We will make every effort to
help you enjoy your tour.
iTunes and iPod are indeed the ideal way to use the system. The
following steps will make using iTunes with our system very easy. The
steps are illustrated in the graphic below.
- Create a new playlist in iTunes called Amsterdam, for example.
- Select that playlist in iTunes (by single clicking it).
- Unzip the tour package by doubleclicking it.*
- In the folder containing the tour files, select (highlight) all of the mp3 files (you can do this with cntrl-click in Windows, and Command-click [or Apple-click] on Mac).
- With all of the mp3 files selected, click and drag the mp3 files onto the track listing area of iTunes.
- Connect your iPod. After synchronization, the playlist and the mp3 files should appear on your iPod. Depending on your iPod settings, you may have to make sure that the checkbox next to each track is checked in iTunes in order to assure transfer to iPod.
If you have an iPod nano or a video iPod, look for the graphics associated with each track on your iPod!
*There is one precaution with Windows
When you doubleclick a zip file, Windows will not automatically extract the files. After doubleclicking the zip file, you get a window that lists the files. You need to click the "extract all files" option in the upper left hand of this window to extract the files. Take note of where the files are extracted (Windows will give you a "show extracted files" option), and then continue from step 4 above.
See the figure below for an exact illustration.
